Richard Smullen

Aqua Feed Technical Manager

Dr Richard Smullen has been in the aquaculture industry for the last 15 years. After his PhD on Shrimp Broodstock Nutrition he was a post doctoral researcher and lecturer at The Institute of Aquaculture, Stirling University. After leaving the academic environment Richard worked for BioMar - the third largest fish feed manufacturer in the world, as the Technical and Product Development Manager. Since October 2003, Richard has been the Technical Manager at Ridley Aqua-Feeds.

Industry Experience

Completed university in 1998 - began working in dairy industry in southern Queensland.  In 2000 began working in pig / cattle nutrition consultancy business in central Queensland.  In 2003 joined Ridley AgriProducts in Rockhampton as regional sales manager.
 
Qualification

Bachelor of Agricultural Science (Hons) University of Queensland
Undertaking PhD on the effects of pre-weaning nutrition on age at puberty, scrotal circumference and semen quality in bulls. (began July 06)

Tim Harrington 2

Industry Experience
Following an honours degree in animal science and postgraduate research in nutrition (protein digestion in ruminants), Tim worked in the UK as a consultant nutritionist for 12 years specialising in dairy, beef and sheep nutrition. He then worked for Associated British Nutrition (ABN) as Ruminant Technical and Marketing Manager for 6 years. He moved to Australia in 2002 to work for Ridley AgriProducts as Dairy Technical Manager and since 2004 has been the Ruminant Technical Manager.

Industry Experience
Andre was raised on his parents beef farm in South Africa. After obtaining his degree in 1991 his first role was as a mill manager and nutritionist for a small integrated pork operation Delsma Farms near Cape Town. He then managed a 500-cow dairy farm for 3 years before deciding to pursue his nutrition career further in Australia. He initially worked as a nutrition consultant with Best-fed Nutrition for three and a half years. He then took on the role of senior nutritionist with Pivot before joining Ridley AgriProducts as their Dairy Services Manager in 2001.

Industry Experience
A graduate of the University of Sydney (B. Sc. Ag. – Hons.), Neil completed a PhD in pig nutrition before undertaking further research at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, in 1991. He returned to Australia in 1994 and worked as a pig research scientist with the Victorian Department of Agriculture, where he was involved in energy and protein metabolism experiments and the evaluation of several commercial products. Neil joined Ridley AgriProducts in 1999 as Queensland Technical Manager and was appointed Pig Technical Manager in 2003.

Poultry
Judy OKeefe

Judy O'Keefe
Technical Manager - Poultry

Industry Experience
A sheep farmer's daughter from central Victoria, Judy originally worked for Barastoc (Ridley Agriproducts) from1988 to 1992 as a general nutritionist. During her 6 years at Colborn-Dawes/Roche she became more focused on the poultry industry.  Judy worked as a consultant from 1992 prior to re-joining Ridley Agriproducts in July 2001.  Meanwhile, she served a four year term on the RIRDC Egg Industry committee.  She is now the Technical Manager for Poultry at Ridley Agriproducts.
